Alitto; Compared with the 1980 conversations, these concentrate more on his intercourse with such important figures as Li Dazhao, Mao Zedong and Kiang Kai-shek, and his legendary experiences, e.g., teaching at Peking University at the age of 24, mediating between CCP and KMT before 1949, devoting himself in rural construction, establishing the Guangmingbao, etc. Liang Shuming (1893-1988), Chinese thinker, educationalist, social activist, and one of the early representatives of modern Neo-Confucianism. Guy S. Alitto received his Ph.D. degree from Harvard University, where he also taught before taking a position at the University of Chicago. In 1980 and again in 1984, at Liang Shuming's invitation, he conducted a series of interviews with Liang in Liang's Beijing home.
